Sub-Saharan Cabinet Hand Crafted in Morocco, Made of Bone Silver Corral and Leather
| | |
The cabinet is hand crafted out of camel bone, antique coral, metal and leather. The dome hinged doors enclose two pockets of shelves lined in camel leather and painted in Tuareg and Berber tradition. The back of the cabinet is mirrored. Perhaps it was used as a display case for jewelry, beads, and precious perfumes. Or perhaps it was commissioned by one of the many great designers from around the world who ended up hypnotized by the exoticism of Marrakech and the craftsmanship of Morocco. The thirteen inch lock is quite elaborate with two heavy etched brass locking Khamsa. The two Lions that are ornately detailed in silver, mixed metal and bone signify the importance of the objects that were once displayed inside. This truly is an amazing museum quality piece most likely from the 1940's or 50's..
